The Wordless Wonder Called Art

© Demi Theoharis. Reprinted with permission from the artist.

This was a print I bought a couple weeks ago from the Greek-born artist Demi Theoharis. (Click link to see more of her work.)

To be honest with you, I don’t know what it’s supposed to represent. I don’t even know the title of this work.

All I know is that it leaves me in a state of wonder and awe.

My reasons for making the purchase:

1) I liked the colors, the varying textures, and how they mesh together unpredictably. (Since I’m not trained as an art critic nor have I ever taken any course related to art, while in college, that’s the best way I can put it.)

2) I figured if I take it home and stare at it long enough, the meaning would reveal itself.

But on second thought, mysteries are sometimes better left unsolved.

Words can explain many things, but there are also many things that cannot be expressed with words.

  1. It is true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If it captures your attention it is beautiful in it’s own right.
